Foxwoods Poker Room Review

Foxwoods Poker Room Review 5,9/10 158 votes

At over 9 million square feet, Foxwoods is far more than a casino, although their casino is pretty substantial indeed. Their 340,000 square feet of gaming space makes them the second largest casino in the U.S., and fourth largest in the world.

The shuttle stops at the Cedars Hotel Lobby which is a quick walk from the Poker Room. I have also found that when checking in very late after playing poker (3am-5am) at the MGM, they have upgraded me to gorgeous suites with beautiful views of the surrounding forest. Foxwoods has a small non-smoking room, but you have to get their super early and must be 21 and over (even though the main room is 18 and over). We didn't see that many people smoking and it would probably be better to make the small room a smoking room and the main hall non-smoking. Foxwoods poker room is the best in the Northeast region! Raffi Boyadjian reviewed Foxwoods Poker — February 17, 2017 Had a great time playing in the Winter Deep Freeze Tournament. Foxwoods' poker room, and casino, is about as depressing of a place as one gambling parlor can get. The drink service is few and far between. The cash game poker room is usually full of nits, unless you go on a weekend or when a big MTT is in town. Comps are non-existent. The poker tournament floors constantly make bad decisions. Casino size is measured by actual gaming space and Foxwoods has 340,000 square feet of gaming space which houses over 380 table games, 7,400 slot machines, and a 104-table poker room. Foxwoods is a unique resort/gaming destination set in the beautiful woods of Connecticut, but still close to dozens of Connecticut’s other vacation attractions.

It is strategically located less than 3 hours drive from New York City, and is in the midst of the very densely populated U.S. northeast. Unlike Las Vegas, which attracts a lot of gamblers but the business is spread out among many casinos, Connecticut casinos Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun get to split all of this business in the area among themselves, which is what has allowed them to become so huge.

Foxwoods isn’t even a single casino, it is a collection of 6 different casinos spread across this huge property. People not only come to play, they also come to stay, and Foxwoods is truly a resort as well as a place to gamble. They feature 2,666 hotel rooms, so they do have a lot of overnight guests here to be sure.

Foxwoods is truly an impressive destination, and while it does essentially cater to those who enjoy casino play, and the casino is certainly at the forefront of the establishment, it is also a place that you can take your whole family on vacation, and also get in all the gambling you want, which makes it a perfect vacation destination for a lot of people.

A Bingo Hall That Just Grew and Grew

The federal Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, passed in 1988, opened the door for Indian tribes to offer gambling on their tribal lands. This legislation was spurred by a court case brought about by a tribe in California challenging the state’s shutting down of their bingo hall, and the case made it all the way to the Supreme Court, who upheld native rights to sovereignty in allowing gaming.

Foxwoods had been operating their own bingo hall since 1986, and this legislation prompted them and other Indian tribes to look far beyond bingo and consider offering not just a casinos but big time casinos.

This took money though, and Foxwoods attracted a casino owner in Malaysia to fund their expansion. So in 1992, Foxwoods became an actual casino, now offering table games in addition to bingo. The next year, the slot machines were delivered, and they now had themselves a real full service casino.

At this time they also brought in an experienced gambling executive from New Jersey to run the operation, which continued to expand over the years into the huge operation that it is today. Bingo still remains a big attraction but Foxwoods now offers all other forms of casino gambling as well, in abundance, including a large poker room.

The Foxwoods Casino Experience

The backbone of any casino is its slot machines, and Foxwoods boasts a massive array of them, with 4,800 slots. This is a slot player’s dream, with a huge selection of everything from old school slots to the latest and greatest ones out there. They range from penny slots to $100 a spin high roller ones, so players of all sizes of bankroll are fully accommodated.

Players can also partake in their daily slot tournaments, and they have plenty of progressive jackpot slots for those who relish playing for the biggest payouts. In addition to their slots, Foxwoods also has a large number of video poker machines.

If table games are your thing, you’re in for a treat here as well, with 22 different kinds of table games to choose from, spread out over 250 gaming tables. Foxwoods also boasts the only $1 blackjack tables in Connecticut. The experience of playing table games at a real casino is second to none, especially at a first class establishment like Foxwoods.

Foxwoods’ race book offers their guests the opportunity for off track betting on not only horse racing but greyhound racing and jai alai, with full track odds and races shown on a 50 foot screen, as well as 15 inch personal screens to watch your particular events on.

Foxwoods’ poker room is the largest on the east coast, and features all of the popular variations of poker, including both limit and no limit Holdem, Omaha, Stud, HORSE, and even Razz. There are plenty of tournaments and special events in addition to their cash games. If you like playing live poker, they have plenty to like here, and you may even run into some famous pros that like to play at Foxwoods.

Foxwoods’ bingo hall is also very impressive, with 3,600 seats, so these are not small bingo games. Foxwoods tops off their casino offerings with the ever popular game of keno, which a lot of players like to get involved in on top of their other gambling, to pack in some extra excitement.

Players also earn comp points for their play, and Foxwoods has plenty to use these points on, including their accommodations, restaurants, spa, entertainment, retail shopping, and more.

Foxwoods’ Other Features

Foxwoods just doesn’t have a hotel, they have four different ones, all AAA diamond rated. Each of their different hotel properties offers a different flavor in their effort to appeal to everyone’s tastes and budget. This alone speaks for the attention to detail that Foxwoods provides its guests.

There are 34 restaurants here, offering everything from fine dining to casual snacks. Foxwoods boasts that they have a restaurant for every craving, and with this many and this much variety, that may even be true. This is a food lover’s paradise.

Aside from the entertainment that the casino provides, Foxwoods also has a vibrant night life scene, with 8 nightclubs, including a Hard Rock Café. They also have numerous shows that run, featuring both music and comedy acts.
